CHEM 352—Biochemistry II—Spring 2026
Seminar Schedule
02-16
Dr. Max Majireck ('05)
Bench-stable pyridinium ketene hemiaminals – a new and emerging class of reagents for organic synthesis
19:00 STEM 051
Max Majireck graduated from Grove City College in 2005 with a B.S. in Biochemistry. While there, Max found his passion for chemistry research while working in the laboratory of Dr. Kriley. An accidental discovery of a thermochromic compound led to his first publication with Dr. Kriley's lab. Since then, Max has specialized in making other accidental discoveries, some of which will be described in his seminar. After Grove City College, Max earned his Ph.D. in 2011 in organic chemistry at Penn State and conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University from 2011-13 before establishing his own independent research program at Hamilton College in 2013.

03-17
Margi (Haiss '18) Brunson
A Career in Paint Chemistry
19:00 STEM 051
Margi (Haiss) Brunson graduated from Grove City College in 2018 with a B.S. in Chemistry and began working for Jamestown Coating Technologies that summer. She currently formulates paints and coatings at JCT for industrial and packaging application. A career in developing coatings allowed her to blend an interest in art and material science with her chemistry degree. Through work, she also gives tours to high school students considering careers in manufacturing. Outside of work, she is active in her local church and volunteers at a Christian coffee shop.

04-09
Nick Tiscione ('00)
From the Bench to the Witness Box: Navigating a Career in Forensic Toxicology
19:00 STEM 051
Nick Tiscione is the Manager of the Toxicology Unit at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) in West Palm Beach, Florida. Mr. Tiscione holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Grove City College (2000) and a Master of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Florida (2006). Mr. Tiscione was a Staff Assistant (2000) and Crime Laboratory Analyst (2000-2006) in the Toxicology Section at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement prior to his employment as a Senior Forensic Scientist (2006-2018) and Manager (2018-present) in the Toxicology Unit at the PBSO. Mr. Tiscione is board certified as a Diplomate in Forensic Toxicology by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT). He is a Member of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists (SOFT), the International Association of Forensic Toxicologists, the International Association for Chemical Testing, and the National Safety Council Alcohol, Drugs and Impairment Division (NSC-ADID). He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) and is a past Chair of the SOFT/AAFS Drugs and Driving Committee. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the ABFT, the Editorial Board of the Journal of Analytical Toxicology, and the Executive Board of the NSC-ADID.
